Ausangate Trekking & Qampa Climb 6 days




Trek around the greatest mountain in the Cusco area and climb to a 5550m summit, To the ascent of Qampa we’ll leave the base camp at 4am. After a 1h30 walk we’ll reach the glaciar and keep ascending till the Summit, on a route that doesn’t require experience. We’ll reach the summit around 8h30am.

Program:

Day 01: Cusco – Rodeana – Upis
We’ll leave Cusco at 7:30am to take a private transport to the pueblo of Rodeana, at 3700mts. From Rodeana we’ll walk till the Upis campsite, at 4210mts, which will be a 4 hour hike approximatedly.

Day 02: Upis – Hatun Puca Cocha
After the breakfast at 7am, we’ll start walking to the Hatun Pucca Cocha lagoons. We’ll start the hike at the west side of Ausangate, going over the first pass on our way, the Arapa (4650m). after that we’ll head down to the Puccacocha lagoons, where we’ll camp. The campsite is pretty close to the glaciar, with spectacular views of the surrounding mountains. This day we’ll hike for approximatedly 5 hours.

Day 03: Hatun Pukacocha – Huchuy Phynaya
We’ll have a hearty breakfast to start our hike the first pass of the day, the Ausangate, with 5000m. From there we can see Ausangatecocha, a beautiful turqoise lagoon. After walking down to the lagoon we’ll start going up again, towards the Palomani pass, with 5200m, which a great viewpoint of Ausangate and also the Mariposa mountain. After that we’ll walk down to Huchuy Phynaya, where we’ll camp.

Day 04: Huchuy Phynaya – Ticllacocha (Campo Base)
Early in the morning we’ll leave from Huchuy Phynaya to walk till the campsite of Ticllacocha, which will be our base camp to the ascent of Qampa mountain summit (5550m). During the walk we’ll see mountains with over 6000m, like Ausangate and Qolquecruz, beautiful glaciar lagoons like Ccomerococha y Alcacocha.

Day 05: Ticllacocha – Cumbre De Qampa – Pachaspata
To the ascent of Qampa we’ll leave the base camp at 4am. After a 1h30 walk we’ll reach the glaciar and keep ascending till the Summit, on a route that doesn’t require experience. We’ll reach the summit around 8h30am. We’ll come back down on the same trek till the Pachaspata basecamp. We’ll have breakfast and then take an easy 3 hour walk in the Ccomerococha Valley till the villaje of Pacchanta. Over there we’ll stay at a very basic mountain refuge in a Andean family house, with hot springs nearby.

Day 06: Pacchanta-Tinke-Cusco

After breakfast we’ll have some time to relax at the hot springs, learn about the local costumes with the hosting family or practice rock climbing. Then we’ll have a snack before walking for 4 hours till the pueblo of Tinke, enjoying the typical andean landscape. In Tinke we’ll take our prívate transport back to Cusco, arriving there around 8pm.
